MACS robotics teams excel in competition

The Mexico Academy & Central School District’s high school robotics teams shined during a recent competition in Chittenango.
Competing against 31 other teams, the MACS senior team went 6-1 in qualifications, securing fourth place and advancing with their alliance to the semifinals. They placed third overall in the skills matches, which measure both driver-control and autonomous performance in one-minute solo challenges.
The MACS senior team also earned the Design Award, which recognizes teams that exemplify excellence in engineering, documentation, communication and student-centered design.
“These seniors really faced some tough competition, and they stepped up in a big way,” said robotics team advisors Galen Fellows and Ben McAuslan. “Their design was well planned and executed, and they deserved the recognition.”
In addition to the senior team, the district’s newest robotics squad, comprised of underclassmen, also had a strong performance. The group finished 14th overall with a 4–3 record and showed tremendous progress, noted Fellows and McAuslan.
“We’re enormously proud of them and their journey so far and look forward to what comes next,” they said.
