A very successful 2025-26 season has turned into a banner year for the Mexico Tigers varsity football team, as they are officially Tier 2 division champions.
Visiting Mexico defeated Jamesville-DeWitt 35-28 to capture the Section III Tier 2 ABC divisional championship.
“I’m unbelievably proud of these boys,” said Tigers varsity head coach Jon Gagnon. “Our work began in the dog days of summer, we put in the hours and got better together and realized our ultimate goal. This season will be something I remember and cherish forever, and I hope all our players do too.”
The Tigers went 6-2 in the regular season, flattening several opponents including defeating every Oswego County team they faced. One of the Tigers’ two losses came at home against J-D, a defeat they would avenge in the title game on the Red Rams’ home turf.
In the playoffs, the Tigers opened the semifinals at home and defeated the Phoenix Firebirds 49-22 to earn a spot in the title game.
Mexico was tough to handle for opposing defenses, as the Tigers averaged more than 42 points per game throughout the season. Meanwhile, defensively, the team was also hard to score against as it held opponents to 18 points per game.
