Dear MACS Family and Community,

It may feel like we have been in "capital project mode" for years... and you would be right.

Our community approved two major capital projects in relatively close succession, in 2023 and again in 2025. Both projects were designed with a strong focus on safety, security, and maintaining the facilities that support the educational experience of our students and staff every day.

Capital Project 2023: Nearing Completion

We are pleased to report that the 2023 Capital Project is in its final stages. Over the past several years, tremendous progress has been made across the district, including:

• Installation of nearly all new windows districtwide
• Replacement of the bridge connecting Mexico High School and Mexico Elementary School
• Paving and striping of the Middle School bus loop
• Creation of a new student recreation area at the Middle School featuring basketball hoops and court striping for four square and pickleball
• Installation of new air handling units at the High School and one new unit at the Middle School
• New electronic signs at each building
• Installation of window shades throughout the district
• Rebalancing of a section of windows in the High School science wing
• Construction of two new parent drop-off loops with additional parking at the Middle School
• Paving of the Middle School staff parking area

One of the most significant improvements has been the implementation of enhanced security measures. New lockdown/lockout buttons have been installed that simultaneously alert district administration and local law enforcement while providing immediate safety announcements to staff and students. This system strengthens our ability to respond quickly and effectively during emergencies.

As we approach project completion, architects and construction teams are conducting final inspections, reviewing deficiency lists, and developing punch lists to ensure every detail is addressed.

We are grateful to the many contractors, architects, and project managers whose hard work and dedication have helped bring these improvements to life.

Looking Ahead: Capital Project 2025

As one project concludes, another begins.

We are now moving directly into Capital Project 2025, which will continue our ongoing commitment to safety, security, and facility improvements throughout the district. Planned work includes:

• Replacement of pool components at the High School
• Additional paving projects
• Improvements to emergency lighting systems
• Replacement of fire alarm systems
• Roof replacements based on warranty expiration schedules
• Replacement of univents and boiler pumps
• Replacement of drinking fountains with modern water bottle filling stations
• Upgrades to public address systems
• Sidewalk replacements
• Additional infrastructure and facility improvements across the district

A Long-Term Plan for Our Schools

Perhaps most importantly, we have established a long-term facilities plan that allows us to address building needs in a fiscally responsible manner while maintaining stable tax rates. By strategically planning future capital projects and maximizing available state aid, we can continue to invest in our schools without creating unnecessary financial burdens on taxpayers.

Based on the recommendations of our fiscal advisors, the next capital project vote is anticipated around 2030. This approach allows us to maximize both taxpayer dollars and state aid reimbursement while ensuring our facilities remain safe, secure, and well-maintained for future generations.
