MACS alumni, longtime P-E instructor Parkhurst named Assistant Principal at MHS

Mexico High School is proud to keep one of its own. Shawn Parkhurst, a 2009 graduate of MACS himself who has long worked for the district, has been named the Assistant Principal at MHS — a full-circle moment for the lifelong Tiger.
Parkhurst was named interim assistant principal earlier in the school year before the BOE made it official in June.
Superintendent Dr. Donna Runner said she was delighted to announce the appointment.
“As an esteemed alumnus of our district, Mr. Parkhurst brings a wealth of knowledge, dedication, and strong leadership to our school community,” said Dr. Runner. “Mr. Parkhurst has demonstrated exceptional commitment and expertise during his tenure as interim Assistant Principal, and we are confident that he will continue to inspire and lead our students and staff to achieve great things”
Born and raised in Scriba, Parkhurst spent his entire K–12 education at Mexico schools. After graduating in 2009, he began a career in physical education and coaching that began in the Buffalo area — but it was the opportunity to return to Mexico in 2014 that brought him back to the community he calls home.
Since then, Parkhurst has been a dedicated educator and leader in the MACS district. He’s served as a PE teacher at the high school, Mexico Elementary and New Haven Elementary and led the PE Department as Coordinator. He also coached a number of sports, including Varsity Boys and Girls Swimming & Diving, Cross Country, Unified Basketball and modified teams. Beyond MACS, he also coached for the Mexico Tiger Sharks Swim Club and SUNY Oswego, and served as Principal for the CiTi BOCES Regional Summer School program.
“It has been an incredible journey so far, and I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to continue working alongside our dedicated students, staff, and community members,” said Parkhurst. “As we move forward, I am excited to build on our successes and tackle new challenges with the same passion and dedication. My focus will remain on fostering a positive and inclusive school culture, enhancing academic excellence, and ensuring the well-being of every student.”
